Advocacy Intern

AACI’s Advocacy Department provides a voice to underrepresented communities in Santa Clara County through legislative and social justice advocacy, community outreach and education, grassroots organizing, civic engagement, and leadership development among APIs and communities of color.   

The Advocacy Intern will assist the Advocacy Department with administrative tasks, management of advocacy projects, research and analysis, and efforts related to the agency’s high school youth leadership program, LEAD.

Internship anticipated start from March 2020 to August 2020. 

Internship Duties and Responsibilities include: 

  • Research and track local, state and federal legislation
  • Prepare information, analysis, and memos to the Board of Directors
  • Assist with program development and workshop facilitation for youth leadership program
  • Assist with planning and coordination of the Asian Pacific Islander Justice Coalition meetings
  • Assist with efforts related to census education and outreach
  • Assist with efforts related to the Asian and Pacific Islander Health Assessment and implementation planning process
  • Assist the Resource Development and Marketing teams with tasks as needed
  • Assist with administrative office duties
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and ability to work as a team with other staff members
  • Willingness to work a minimum of 8 hours per week
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Professionalism and ability to work with stakeholders and community member
